First Days

Hey everyone! I finally made it to Argentina after a few detours. I started out the trip right in DFW by having scissors in my backpack, but for some reason I was allowed to keep them. While walking through the airport in Dallas I saw an older man come out of a door and then heard him say something to me, thinking I misheard him, I looked back, but the expression on his face told me he didn't like me and what I thought I heard was right. We had several delays right off, but once we took off the flight went great.

9 or so hours later we arrived in Santiago, Chile. We had to stand in line and have our temperature taken to make sure we didn't have the swine flu, then my scissors got me in trouble and I had them taken away. After going through security people started yelling at me and two other girls I was with and saying "Mendoza" and "correr" so we started sprinting through the airport like the people in HomeAlone. As we arrived at our gate (I'm realllly out of shape) we saw the door being shut and they shook their heads and said we couldn't board the plane (or something along those lines, turns out my spanish is HORRIBLE).  The next flight was seven hours later. It's amazing the things that interest you after seven hours in the airport! I started to take a picture with Rylie, but just as I did, my camera decided to go along with the rest of the trip so far and die! Finally at 4:30 we boarded our plane for a 35 minute flight to Mendoza!

Finally in Mendoza, we walked off the plane, through customs to realize our baggage wasn't at the baggage claim! Luckily, they had placed it just past the security check!! We met our families a few minutes later and then headed of towards home!

My family is really really nice! and they speak really good English!!!!! The driving in Mendoza is awful haha I thought we were going to have at least 4 wrecks on the way home.  My new house is a three story building, the bottom floor is a pharmacy, I don't know if it's theirs or not, and the top two floors are the house.  We had an earlier dinner at about 8, my mom fixed me fried fish, salad with lemon juice, potatoes and wine with orange juice for dinner. It was all really good. After dinner I hung out with my family. My family that I live with is my mom and dad (Coco) and Nadia (27). One of my sisters arrived around 10, she is pregnant and has a two year old little boy who speaks spanish, french and a few english words here and there. He makes me feel stupid :)

I went to bed early around 11 because of the long day. I lay in bed and I can hear the horse drawn carriages outside my window!!! Today is an Argentine holiday so we're going to be eating a ton and going to the town center. I'm supposed to meet my neighbor today who is a Hawaiian exchange student.

I haven't really spoken with anyone since I arrived. I hope Rylie is doing ok, her mom didn't speak any English!!!

Hope you're having a great day, I'll post more later!
